Sand to Stars

This week, Matchbox is excited to bring in an old friend and new writer to the team. She has a unique, refreshing voice and mindset that, not only our blog, but also the members of the Church who take the time will benefit from reading. Whether one thousand or one dozen people read her thoughts, they will be beneficial to each person that decides to click or tap on this part of the internet. So, get ready. There will be confetti. -Alex.

God is so awesome. I almost don’t want to use that word because people use it so lightly. He is awe-inspiring. He literally leaves me in awe. I’m quite the science nerd, which really, when you look at how cool and ridiculously clever everything in life is, it’s kind of hard not to be.

There are so many intricacies on our planet. I mean, we are made up of TRILLIONS of cells (yes, literally trillions) that each contain DNA. This DNA is so convoluted packed, that it’s similar to trying to put 20 meters of string into a gel capsule. To make proteins that are very essential to life, complexes that are ever tinier than DNA go through and read said DNA and, in a very elaborate way, use several slightly larger complexes like aminoacyl tRNA-synthetase. AND even cooler, those tiny complexes can read the DNA in different ways to make completely different proteins. That’s ridiculous. GOD MADE THAT. HE DID THAT.

And he made you.

With just as much attention to detail.

The universe is also so so big. I need you to immediately go to The Scale of the Universe
It shows the size difference among almost everything in the universe. It puts things into perspective. For example, a redwood tree is 100 meters. An average human is 1.7 meters. That’s crazy. We can then zoom out and realize how you could fit 1.3 MILLION earths into the sun. Literally.
Okay, think about the size of your house. Now think about your state. Now think about your country. Now think about the earth. Now multiply that by 1.3 MILLION. That’s how big the sun is, and it’s not even the biggest star in the universe.

He created all that, too.

And he is bigger.

Thinking about all of this breathtaking beauty, it’s insane to think that God would even bother with us, right? I mean we’re just tiny organisms that mess up very frequently.
But God loves us more than you will ever know. Like ridiculously much.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.  And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

Matthew 10:29-31

Here, Jesus is talking to his disciples, explaining how much he loves them. Sparrows are worth close to nothing and God still cares about them. They literally are worth half a cent. But you, oh man. You are worth more than MANY sparrows. So if our Father cares about a little, worthless sparrow and He says you’re worth SIGNIFICANTLY more than that, then He must care about us beyond our wildest dreams. The Creator of the Universe and everything in it knows the number of hairs on your head. He knows everything about you, and he cares so much. That means so much, doesn’t it?

Stay happy.
