This past week I went on a field trip to see a couple of cadavers at a local college. I knew that they also had several preserved fetuses but I became more interested in them than I originally thought I would be. Today, I’m not going talk solely about abortion. My main goal is to show the value of human life.
As I studied one particular fetus of about ten weeks old, I noticed the fingers and toes. They were so small yet had still been formed in just 70 days. I was absolutely floored. I had always known the importance of life and how awful abortion is, but I couldn’t believe it. I thought that, if people just saw the ten itty-bitty fingers, that I saw maybe they would completely change their view on abortion. But, like I said, I’m not trying to tell you why abortion is wrong or call you out if you’ve had this procedure before, I just want to convey the value of a life.
God has a purpose and a plan for every life He creates. He sent His son to die for every individual – even for the ones we think He shouldn’t have. The murderers, rapists, evil dictators, thieves, and our enemies; He forgives them all. Don’t forget the thief that repented while he was on the cross or those whom Jesus used to glorify Himself : David, Paul, Jonah, Lazarus; all unworthy people who were used to glorify God. He doesn’t have favorites. He didn’t send Jesus to die for one race or one culture or one sex. God has an intended purpose for everyone. God has the same amount of compassion for every soul. and wants a relationship with us all, not just a specific group.
Look at the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? Matthew 6:26
God provides birds with food and a lot of shelter. He even gave them knowledge to migrate. Why does he do this? Because he cares for them. Kind of crazy, God cares for these winged animals that ruin our Saturday beauty sleeps. Even crazier, God cares for us. We fail Him so often, yet here He comes, forgiving us and caring for us. God loves us in the same way that a parent loves its child. They helped create that child, therefore they care for it and nurture it.
When I held that baby in my hands, I was blown away. God loved it just as much as He loved any other individual. He had a specific plan with a specific purpose for that baby just like he does for us. Don’t think you’re just extra weight. God has created you with a specific intention to glorify Him and share the Gospel.
