I love Thanksgiving, and if you know me, you probably know I’m very passionate about celebrating Thanksgiving mostly because everyone skips it and starts celebrating Christmas early. Don’t get me wrong; I love Christmas. I just love Thanksgiving too. Part of Thanksgiving is, obviously, giving thanks. I mean, it’s in the name!
During the November holiday, we take time to thank friends, family, God and loads of other people. Personally, I’m not always the best at showing gratitude. Usually, I’m ungrateful when someone gives me a gift, and that means, for me, that I’m sometimes bad at showing God that I’m thankful.
It sounds pretty ridiculous when I say I’m thankless because, when it comes to God, there is so, so, so much to be thankful for. I mean, literally, God gives us air to breathe, days to live, food to eat, eyes to see, tongues to speak, brains to think and absolutely everything else! I could write everything else that God gives us, but we would be here for eternity.
My point is that God gives me everything I need to live a happy life, and I don’t thank him for it enough. I tend to end up asking God for more and forget to thank him for what he’s already given me. I think all of us can get so caught up in asking God for things that we forget to thank God for what we already have.
So, something I’ve been working on lately is thanking God for what he has given me. I challenge myself daily to thank him at the start of the morning and continue until the last moment of my night. In the morning, I begin by thanking me for letting me wake up and by the end of the night, I’ve thanked him for letting me finish the day.
Surprisingly, the more I tell him I am thankful, the more things I find to thank him for. He continues to bless me, and I need to show him how thankful I am for those blessings. I’m not the only one who thinks this. The Bible clearly states multiple times that we should thank God.
Here’s just a few verses:
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!”
1 Chronicles 16:34
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!”
Remember to thank God. He is so worthy to be thanked, and it is honestly so ridiculous of us to not thank him for all that he has done for us. Thank God today!
